Nyvang's Community Hall is a replica of the community hall in Sandby, near Holbæk, built in 1912. The house was constructed with funds collected from the parish residents through the sale of shares. Each share cost 5 kroner, and 715 shares were sold, raising a total of 3,575 kroner. The original green wooden benches have been preserved in the hall, as has the decorative glass mosaic on the back wall above the gym bars, which comes from the original community hall.
The community hall was a local cooperative or association-owned cultural center where a variety of activities took place: gymnastics, lectures, post-funeral gatherings, parties, political and other association meetings. The earliest community halls were established in the early 1870s, often associated with rifle clubs, Grundtvigian folk high schools, and free schools. Soon, a large number of Danish villages had their own community halls. By 1920, there were approximately 1,600 community halls spread across the country.
