The Cooperative Store in Nyvang is filled with history, and the many products invite cozy, spontaneous purchases. The store is a replica of Trønninge Brugs, which operated from 1889 to 1979. It was the first of its kind on Zealand. One part of the building serves as the store, while the other houses the manager's residence. The interior is set up as it might have looked in the 1940s. The furnishings in the store are collected from various defunct grocery shops, such as the counter from Gevninge, the coffee grinder from Dalby/Gørlev, and the cash register from Søndersted.
The cooperative society is one of the key institutions from the cooperative era. The idea originated in England. The first cooperative store in Denmark was founded in 1866 in Thisted. The society was collectively owned by its members, who could secure lower-priced goods through joint purchasing. Profits were reinvested in the cooperative or distributed as dividends—member discounts. The store sold everything the heart could desire: alcohol, sewing supplies, toys, hardware, knick-knacks, groceries, and even larger agricultural tools. Special items could be ordered from extensive catalogues.
