Nestled at the edge of the forest is a charming yellow building. This is the Forest House, built in 1910 as part of Nyvangsgården. Over the years, it has served various purposes, from housing Polish beet girls and a feed master, to hosting gas exercises for the Danish Armed Forces. Today, the house is home to the Handicraft Association of the Holbæk region. Here, you can see everything from woodworking to beautiful handicrafts such as knitting, crocheting, lace making, and macramé.
Originally, almost everything on a farm was produced by hand: clothing, tools, food, etc. This handicraft work typically took place in the evening after dinner. In the second half of the 19th century, evening work was gradually replaced by factory-made goods. As this happened, handicrafts became a popular movement focused on teaching the youth the values of diligence and frugality. Even today, handicraft associations exist, celebrating both traditional and modern crafts.
